Monthly Newsletter
July 2003
Comrades,
The new fiscal year is upon us, and it's time to
renew your annual membership for the year(s)
2003-2004. I would like for each of you that
mail in your payment (for those that live locally)
to call at 636-0794 or (those out of county or
state) to send me a postcard and let me know that
you have paid your dues so I can keep a tally of who
has paid. Each year I am tasked with trying to
determine who is current, as we have to try to reach
the 100% mark in our membership. Last year, I mailed
about 13 letters to those that it was reported had
not paid, of those I only received a response from
one. It's an unpleasant task to have to hound
you each to pay your dues, and for that reason I
would recommend to each of you that is able to think
of changing to a Life Membership.
The Post Commander requests, that each Post
member volunteer some of your time to help out
during our annual Crab Feed and 4th of July Rally
fund raisers. The few of us that each year struggle
to keep these functions going are getting burned
out, and it is no fun especially as we get older and
have some health issues. Comrades, if we can do it,
you can do it...WE NEED YOUR HELP! If you are not
aware, the proceeds from the 4th of July Rally go to
help keep the Dug out operating. If we can't get
your help we may have to make changes and cuts in
the Canteen operation. We also need help on the
Honor Guard.
Prospects are, that we may start moving back into
the Veteran's Building on or about the 1st of August
if things go right. We need help to make the move
also! If you wish to help contact the Commander at
638-0928. The city attorney is drawing up a
Memorandum of Understanding for the Veteran's
Building. More on this later.
The newly elected District Officers, Cmdr.
Jeffrey Beckham, Sr. Vice Cmdr. Louis Montana, and
Jr. Vice Cmdr. Curtis Martin were our distinguished
guests for our July Post meeting. Our Post Officer
installation was presided over by Comrade Gunnels
and assisted by the District Commander.
On Sunday, August 10, 2003 the Post will sponsor
the District meeting at the Veterans park picnic
area A/B. We need members to attend the meeting and
also help to serve the food as we are going to
prepare the BBQ. The Post will also sponsor the
District meeting on January 18, 2004 at the
Veteran's Building with the Ladies Auxiliary serving
the food and goodies. The Post will assist the
Ladies if they request help.
Comrade(s) or family of a Comrade in distress:
Comrade Marion Magladry is in the Whispering Pines
convalescent home. We wish him well!
Tiles: The applications have been turned over to
the Commander and the Post will oversee the tile
program.
On Saturday, July 26, 2003, a VFW National
Satellite training program will be aired at the
Mission Santa Clara Post 3982 at 1313 Franklin
Street, Santa Clara, CA from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm.
For those wishing to attend, i will be leaving
Hollister about 8:00 am. I have room for six bodies.
Call me at 636-0794.
Comrades, please try to attend the Post meetings
each month and get involved in the decision making
process as to how your Post will be run. The next
Post meeting will be on August 9, 2003 at 10:00 am.
A.P. Araballo, Adj.
