Welcome to
VFW Hollister Post 9242

The VFW traces its roots back to 1899 when veterans of the Spanish-American War (1898) and the Philippine Insurrection (1899-1902) founded local organizations to secure the rights and benefits for their service.  Those organizations banded together to form what would become the Veterans of Foreign Wars.  By May 28, 1936 when the 74th Congress issued the Congressional Charter incorporating the VFW, the membership grew to almost 200,000.

Hollister Post 9242 was formed when World War II veterans returned home and wanted an organization that represented their common bond.  The Hollister Post 9242 received it charter on March 28, 1947. Like the National Organization, the Post has been serving veterans and the community ever since.

The Dug Out - The Dug Out is a private bar facility, established in 1947, run by and for the posts members and their guests.  It is located on East Street on the backside of the Veterans Memorial Building.  Post charter members, when unable to gain acceptance to the existing bar upstairs, literally "dug out" what was then a small storage area under the buildings stage to create the Dug Out bar.

During the Veterans Memorial Building restoration, the bar was updated with ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) compliant bath rooms plus a second street entrance door with stairs and a hydraulic lift was added.  We welcome back those members who have experienced trouble negotiating the stairs.

Bar Hours: 1:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday
